Finding a licensed contractor?
If you are looking for a licensed contractor there are several avenues. You can search ads, like yellow pages, new papers etc. Although these entities do require the contractors to display their license number on the ad, many display their occupational license which is in reality a business tax (not a license). Others just give a fraudulent number or even worse steal a number from a licensed contractor. Only LicensedFloridaContractors.com verify their advertiser's license with the county or state before acceptance.
So you found a contractor now what?
. Always insist on a written contract.
. Always pay by bank check (try never to pay with cash).
. Ask the company to pull the necessary permits.
. Always ask if they are licensed and insured. Verify their license with their issuer in the where to get help page.
. Always try to write the check to the company.
note: Licensed contractors won't mind any of the above mentioned request, but unlicensed contractors will.
You have become the victim of unlicensed contractors, and need help?
If an unlicensed individual contracted with you, it is a criminal offense as per county ord or Fl state statue.
